Renaissance French Hood, Lady orders Aimee Black, Renaissance Headpiece, Headdress, Medieval Headpiece, Tudor French Hood, Hat
This headpiece is a perfect orders compliment to any dress.
It is believed that Henry VIII's second wife and Elizabeth I's mother, Anne Boleyn brought the Hood style of headwear back to England following her service at the court of the French King.
This traditional example of an elaborate French Hood circa 1520 - 1540 and has been made from a sturdy base that has been covered with lush Black velvet. Appropriate weight wire has been added to maintain it's shape. The gold colored Venise lacy trim has been adorned with hand sewn 6, 8 and 10 mm Black Czech Glass faceted beads.
Although I try to make my items as historically accurate as possible - I do believe that there are some "modern" things that make our lives easier...most hoods were attached with ties under the chin - I find that very uncomfortable so I make my Hoods to tie in the back at the hairline. Secondly - usually Black Velvet was used for the veil - I use black silk elegance or black cotton depending on availability because it is lighter weight and not as hot!
