ABOUT THE PAINTING

Generations of farmers respected or feared these ancient sites as fairy forts as they were reputed to be entrance to the underword and home to a race of small people or fairies and it is believed that there are real-world repercussions for interfering with them. These ancient monuments are now preserved by law in Ireland.
