Traditional Antique, Antique Kitchenalia, Brass Pestle and orders Mortar, Country Kitchen, Spice Grinding, Lacquered Base, Oval Pot, Unusual Brass
On offer is this lovely collectible brass apothecary / kitchen pestle and mortar. Both items are in good condition overall, the brass metal has notably darkened over the years with tarnish build-up; notable scuffs and scratches commensurate with age as well as orders an area of green verdigris around the base (please refer to images). The black-lacquered base is also in good order - extensive aged ware as well as scuffing and scratching too but as shown all adding to the aged charm and character of the piece.
The mortar is of traditional oval form, plain in design yet stylish in appearance and comes presented on its original black-lacquered base which shows an octagonal shape.
The interior has also been black-lacquered / lined.
A brass pestle is present - not original but conforms really well with the mortar.
Unmarked for a maker, circa late 19th / early 20th century in date - the pestle may be slightly later.
It measures 16.5cm (6 and 1/2 inches) by 12.5cm (5 inches) by 8.4cm (3 and 1/4 inches) - all outer measurements including the base - and is ready to be collected and enjoyed once again!
