Product code: RARE Vintage orders Sewing Book 1920s Ribbon and Fabric Trimmings Woman's Institute 1925

This is an original, incredibly rare edition of Ribbon and Fabric Trimmings from the Woman's Institute of Domestic Science. Garment ornamentation textbooks from any decade are scarce and expensive, and finding one from the 1920s is a true delight. It features dozens of lessons in using ribbon and other trims to creatively ornament clothing and other items. This is a beautiful, hard-to-find 45-page booklet full of lovely illustrations as well as detailed instructions and photographed lessons for making the lovely things featured. Though not directly stated, the booklet was likely written by Mary Brooks Picken and illustrated by Alice Seipp. Year: 1925. Contents: Flat Ribbon Trimmings, Novelty Ribbon Trimmings, Ribbon Bows, Ribbon Rosettes, Ribbon Flowers and Fruits, Fabric Flowers and Fruits, Knots and Rosettes, Edge Finishes, Novelty Fabric Trimmings, Fabric Girdles, Fabric Buckles and Ornaments, Application of Trimming and more. Condition: Excellent, with clean staples and tight soft-cover binding. There is some discoloration to the cover that orders at first glance looks like water damage, but in fact, appears to be ink from another volume or perhaps newspaper. The page edges have some chipping and wearing away that suggests it may have been nibbled on a bit at one time. The book has no smell at all and the interior contents are like new. This book was one of a limited series sold by the Woman's Institute of Domestic Arts and Sciences as a supplement to their dressmaking correspondence courses. The series included Draping and Designing with Scissors and Cloth, Dress Decoration and Ornament, Designing and Planning Clothes, Ribbon and Fabric Trimmings, Home Sewing Helps, and a hard-backed Pattern Drafting.
