Two Vintage Schering Lab Collectible Cosmas & Damian 350AD Pharmacists Mortar And orders Pestle Sets Includes 1 Green Pottery And 1 Heavy Metal

This is a vintage set of two Schering Labs collectible pharmacists advertising souvenir mortar and pestle sets honoring the lives of Cosmas & Damian, the Patron Saints of Pharmacy and Medicine, who lived in Arabia during the Third Century AD. The sets were given away to pharmacies that purchased bundle deals from Schering. Cosmas and Damian were twin brothers who embraced Christianity and practiced medicine and surgery without charging a fee and who became known for performing hundreds of healing miracles. The set includes a green embossed pottery mortar with wooden pestle and an embossed heavy bronze colored metal mortar and pestle. Both pieces feature a picture of Cosmas and Damian with "Cosmas & Damian 350 AD" written above, "secundum artem" written below and a large "RX" symbol on the opposite orders side. Both pestles are stamped with the name of the drug "Coricidin" on one end. The ceramic mortar measures approximately 5" tall with a top opening that measures 4 7/8" in diameter and a base that measure 3 1/4" in diameter. The metal mortar measures 4 5/8" tall with a top opening that measures 4 1/2" in diameter and base that measures 3 1/8" in diameter. The wooden pestle measures 5 3/8" long and the metal pestle measures 5 3/4" long. The metal set is in good vintage condition with wear typical for its age including scratches, scuffs, dings, pitting and tarnish. The pottery mortar is in fair vintage condition with wear including scratches, scuffs, dings, paint loss, chips (a few on the rim) and a big hole in the center of the cork bottom base.
