This is one of my favourite pieces. A coyote skull, with gold paint made from mica powder, red agate, some python sheds, and a brooch I found in a vintage shop.
When I find a bone, I like to orders envision the life that it was once part of. The beauty that remains long after the creature has died is something that has always been apparent to me. I love the organic lines of bone, the way it dips and curves. There is a perfect imperfection in bone, in its dimples and cracks. To me, it speaks of life as much as it speaks of death.
In this piece, I am imagining a coyote, laying in the sun on a late June afternoon. He is relaxed, and content. Butterflies flutter by on a warm breeze, and for a moment, one alights on his head. It is a beautiful, ephemeral moment, captured eternally in bone.
