"Beauty With So Much Pain"

I know I've said this a lot, but this is one of my absolute favorites so far. (I think I feel a collection coming....)

The inspiration for this piece came from looking at all the beauty in the world around you, gorgeous skies, lush grass, mother nature at her best, and instead of being able to surrender to the joy of the moment, that dark cloud above this young lady's head is a constant threat that refuses to leave. A threat with deliverance of pain, sadness, horror, anger, fear, and anything else negative. Yet she continues the walk, head down so no one sees the pain in her eyes, puts one foot in front of the other, and still tries to enjoy the moment as she knows even the day is a gift.

This acrylic painting has several intensities of gloss gel mixed into the paint. The grass has a very light gloss gel mixed in, simply to help create the motion. When you look up the canvas to the blue sky, you will see that was done with a thicker gloss gel mixed into that and combined with a different brush technique. The clouds are made of thick textured clouds with heavy gloss gel to create all that height and depth.

Beauty is painted on canvas wrapped onto a wood frame 20" tall, 16" wide, and approx 1" thick. The media used consists of acrylic paint, several levels of gel gloss, gesso, metallic powder pigment, and is sealed with a gloss finish.

When I paint, I just let my hands take over. Nothing is as realistic as some critics would like, but life isn't perfect, and I paint to let my mind relax, not for perfection or any critic. I enjoy many different styles of painting, techniques, and medias. My favorite pastime mental retreat was, and still is, books, movies, etc., in the fantasy, SciFi, magical genres. They have changed how I see the world. What you get in my art is my mind orders that has escaped to these worlds.
