Product code: Victorian Pickle Castor by Simpson, Hall, Miller & Co orders ~ "Quadruple Plate" Silverplate

Elegant old pickle castor with fun details. Pressed glass is interestingly etched, there's a cute bird at the top and a hanger for a missing set of tongs or a fork. The lid would not polish in the area of the monogram which I think orders reads AKP or maybe AHP. "Quadruple Plate" by Simpson, Hall, Miller & Co, meaning that four times the standard amount of silver was used to plate it. This process became popular in the mid 19th century and this type of serving piece had its heyday in the Victorian era. All types of pickled vegetables and fruits were presented in these fancy castors. The whole thing is in very good condition with nearly all of the silver intact. There are a few corroded spots on the surface the jar sits on, which can't be seen with the jar in place (see last photo). The tongs are missing. The jar has a little shelf at the top which the lid sits on - this shelf has a few very small chips. One foot must have bent a bit, because it rocks a little. Bend it back or add a pad to the high foot, I'll let you decide. This came from my elderly aunt. It's not quite 11.5" tall. 6" side to side at its widest point. The lid is 3-1/4" in diameter.
