Vintage 2½ Pound Yankee Pattern Axe w/ Hand Carved Handle

Here we have a very nice Yankee Pattern axe. It weighs in at just over 3 pounds so I'm calling this a 2½ pounds. The head is 6¼” across with a 3⅝” edge. The handle is 27” long.
So much for the cold facts. The true value of this axe lays in the aesthetics. The handle is a hand carved rectangle whose edges have been rounded to fit beautifully in your hand. There even a nod towards putting a fawns foot at the bottom. The whole piece has an aged and oiled look to it. As an axe I'm sure it's perfectly serviceable. As a piece orders of art, craftsmanship, and history I find it to be much more.
