The lines on this Art Dish are washed out and faded to represent the ancient artifact that inspired it. The original piece is a textile pouch of the Early Tiwanaku Style, from Bolivia, Peru and Chile, AD 200 - 400. After I hand formed the dish, I used a piece of fabric to echo the lined textile design on the back surface of the wet clay. I intentionally left the edges of the dish irregular to represent how time wears on an artifact. After bisque firing, I added the lines of colored washes and covered it with a food safe glaze before kiln firing again.
This dish is approximately 7.5 inches in diameter. It is about 1.5 inches deep. I used an ochre mid-range firing clay for this piece.
This piece could be used as decoration or to hold jewelry, keys, change, your cell phone or anything else that needs a special place.
