Beautiful mid-century white glass decanter that is so impossibly elegant that it looks like something out of a fairy tale.
Hand blown in Empoli, a region of Italy where they have been making glass since the Roman era. The decanter itself is white cased glass--meaning, white on the inside and clear on the outside. The pedestal orders base, the handle and the stopper are elegantly wrought of clear twisted glass (see pics).
Very few of these survived with the stopper intact, but this one DID! It has a beautiful tear drop shape that nicely mirrors the shape of the pitcher.
The elongated spout is not just an embellishment but functionally designed for flawless pouring--exactly what we would expect from a place with 2,000 years of glass making expertise.
To us, the shape perfectly captures what people mean when they say "Mediterranean art glass."
In PERFECT (probably unused) condition.
Measures 18" tall with stopper, 14" tall without stopper.
