Product code: Handmade Blackberry Buttons, 12 orders Thread Wrapped Bead Buttons, 18th Century Hand Wrapped Buttons with Bead Chips 5/8

This is a set of 12 handmade buttons from 1800's. They've been made to look like little blackberries using the Death Head method of wrapping thread around a small wooden bead. They've been hand wrapped orders with linen thread and covered with tiny black plastic or glass chips. They have no shank so they're sewn directly onto a garment.

Wrapped buttons like these are masterpieces of patience and precision. Threads are wrapped and woven around the bead and with each successive wrap they're securing the one before (no glue) in a crisscross manner. They were originally made as a cottage industry in rural areas and cities and sometime by tailors. Special ones like these were most likely made by special craftsmen who devoted each day to creating painstaking and beautiful creations.

They're still in good condition and measure: 5/8" dia.
A couple are missing a few of the bead chips but the rest are fully intack. All twelve are joined with a thread running through the bottom.
