A vintage smaller scale stone bird carving by Inuit artist Allie Awp (Amittu) of Povirnituq.
The bird is posed in an upright (stand at guard) position.
Has all the great detailing to the bird that Allie Awp is noted for, including the large eyes, the dot dot dot "eyebrows", the "nails" on the web feet, the sharp, angular wing shoulders. Birds were definitely a favoured object in Allie's art.
Weight: approx. 10.9 (309 grams)
Dimensions: 4 1/8" high x 2" deep x 1 3/8" wide
The underside has quite a bit of scraping obliterating the signature that normally would be there. However Allie Awp had such a distinctive style, there is no doubt this is his work.
