Product code: 1851 Swedish SKAKTE (flax scutching orders knife) ORIGINAL PAINT Initials Large
Came directly from Sweden.
This is a skäkte, a wooden knife used to separate seeds from flax before it is spun or woven. Very collectible. This one is rare in that it has the original paint and appears to have been used, given that the paint has worn off the handle.
Each is unique and hand crafted. These fancy painted ones were given as wedding presents, but also for other special occasions. Dated 1851. The initials are hard to read, but one is most definitely a "D". As expected, there is wear and braces were nailed to be back a very long time ago to keep the wood from splitting.
This wonderful primitive is 8" wide and 20" long.
A traditional Scandinavian touch to any decor.
