Excellent early 19th century antique Georgian blue and white transferware dinner plate, printed in a sparkling, medium blue with a view of the "Boston State House", by John Rogers & Son of Dale Hall, Longport, Staffordshire (1814 – 1836). Believed to be one of only two American Views produced by Rogers.
This antique “American Views” transferware plate has no marks, cracks, repairs, restoration or flea bites – is in excellent antique condition. Some brush marks on the back of the plate where glaze was applied, there at time of manufacture (see pix). Sepia blush on back. Maker's mark, “ROGERS”.
Produced approx. 1825. Transfer of pattern is perfect. The central design of locals and cows lounging on the commons is surrounded by a rim filled with flowers. Many things conspire to make any Boston State House piece highly prized. orders Age, rarity, the overall quality of the design and the novelty of a time when the Boston State House abutted pasture. An incredibly popular but, hard to come by pattern – in excellent condition - hence the price. If you collect Boston State House, you understand.
