This is a delicious kokeshi gumma. The kimono is beautifully decorated with carved dandelion flowers. Sansaku Sekiguchi was born in 1925 and is the only certified Creative Kokeshi Master from the Japanese government. He even has his own museum of him in Gunma. He has won numerous awards including the prestigious Prime Minister three times !!! His kokeshi are probably among the most popular and sought after by collectors around the world, making them very expensive. Sekiguchi-San passed away in 2018. His children Toa, Toshio and his daughter Izumi now also do kokeshi by successfully winning many prices at competitions. This doll was made by the artist in approx. c1970-1980's, the doll stands 5" tall, weight 341gm. The doll is in very good, original condition consistent with age and standards of collectable Folk Art, with all details perfect orders and as crafted.
