These earrings were designed and made by George.
I made these earrings with genuine 22-carat gold leaf, and used traditional gilding techniques to apply the gold to my handmade oak triangles.
The design also includes turquoise round beads and turquoise rings. The findings and wire are sterling silver, and the earrings come with sterling silver earring backs to prevent loss.
I use gilding techniques orders that date back over a thousand years. I intentionally leave random gaps in the gold, where the red clay base can show through. This is one of the traditional looks for gold leaf.
The surface of the leaf is delicate, so I applied three layers of Renaissance Wax, a finish that is used in museums to protect important objects.
