The fourth book in the Pimpernel series, this cover snagged me before I even realized what it was. I love the shapely blue indentations with the pops of red flowers.
There are faint pen marks in one of the cover's shapes and overall smudging on the front and back covers. The binding is pulling away from the pages in the front matter just in the bottom. The front matter has a second cutout image from the book pasted onto the page and a dedication to the original owner, as well as two other owner's names (love the history of hands!). There are small pen markings on the title page as well. Lastly, a previous owner used a Christmas Ribbon as a bookmark and it is now attached to the pages in the back. I am leaving it as a part of the book's history, but it has marred these back-matter pages.
In all, it's in good readable condition, especially for its age, and is a stunning first American edition.
