ABSTRACT #6 - Acrylic drip on 14x14 canvas. Fields of wildflowers orders blur in the distance as we speed past the countryside. The explosion of color contrasts the inky black puddle whose tentacles reach up, dividing the pretty pastels and glowing jewel-tones. Muted yellows wiggle through dull gray into emerald green and fiery orange. Like an oily puddle, its iridescent hues dance and pull you in, forcing your eyes to trace every line from one burst of color to the next.
This was made using the overflow from a pour - I let the paint fall from the larger canvas onto a smaller one, and then stretch the paint across the canvas the same way. I used Golden, Windsor & Newton, and Liquitiex Basics acrylic paints mixed with Fluetrol as a medium. The paint fell over the sides perfectly, so it can be seen from any angle - except the back, which is always messy when I paint (a sign of the artist's hard work, I think) Signed and dated on back.
