This is a craft that goes back to the culture of the area of Sierra Leone Africa. The Gullah community of the low country has carried on this heritage since the days of the rice plantations. The slaves were knowledgeable rice growers and the low country terrain was perfect for the crop. The tradition has only recently been connected to their UNKNOWN heritage. An awakening for the Gullah people to find their connection, through the weaving of these wonderful baskets. The BASKETS provided the link for their roots. They have since found connections to the songs and dance they enjoy to this day.
