This brooch, which can also be used as a pendant, is worn to make a statement. I feel it represents feminism, birth, beginning of life and female empowerment. It is inspired on organic forms and structures generally found in nature. The pastel colors make a beautiful contrast with the reds and oranges of the copper underneath the transparent enamel.
The ancient champlevé enamel technique was used for this piece. Hand drawing and etching a design on copper, resulting in shapes on the metal sheet that are raised and the other spaces forming fields. The fields are filled with powdered enamel and torch fired to permanently fuse to the metal. I orders then gave the whole surface a layer of clear enamel. The back is german silver and the pin is stainless steel, with a handmade sterling silver catch. This piece may also be worn as a pendant, since it has a bail at the back, right on top of the pin mechanism.
