This is the garden of a dear friend who's home I visit frequently. It is a peaceful getaway and one of my favorite places. I live, work, and grew up in the Chesapeake Bay region and I love to create images of the area. My early childhood summers were spent on the Magothy River, a tributary to the bay. I still spend as much time as possible on or around these gorgeous waters of Maryland.

Mixed media painting on cradle board with hardware. Encaustic is a painting medium of pigment suspended in bees wax and heated to a molten hot state. Each layer of wax is fused using a torch. Encaustic is one of the earliest forms of painting. Funeral masks were found in Egyptian tombs painted with encaustic medium. All the materials orders are in their natural form. It makes a very soft, warm, and textured painting you won't find in any other medium.

To create these pieces I also use pastels, colored pencils, pigment sticks and encaustic paints.
